Doctors, nurses, healthcare professionals, lawyers, insurers, case managers and care specialists came together at Agincare’s first Injury to Independence seminar to address one of the biggest challenges facing people after traumatic injury: navigating a fragmented system of services at the moment coordinated support is needed most.
Held at Southampton Football Club on 12 May, the event brought together professionals from across healthcare, rehabilitation, legal services and long-term support to explore how better collaboration can improve outcomes for people recovering from serious injury. While each sector plays a vital role, the pathway from injury to independence is often complex and disconnected, with individuals and families left trying to manage multiple providers, priorities and processes during already difficult circumstances.
Complex injury partnerships
The seminar reinforced Agincare’s vision for its Complex Injury Partnership Programme (CIPP), creating a connected system of support that responds to the full range of needs following serious injury, rather than offering isolated services in silos.

Attendees heard directly from people with lived experience whose journeys highlighted both the value of excellent individual support and the challenges caused when systems fail to connect. ben Bourne, from Southampton, spoke about his recovery following a traumatic brain injury, alongside Tara Doey from Headway Southampton and West Wessex, who has supported him throughout his rehabilitation journey. Brendon Feeley, who is supported by Agincare, also shared his experience alongside his mother, Beverley, after sustaining a spinal injury aged 13, reflecting on the importance of coordinated support across every stage of recovery.
Director and Shareholder, Adam Luckhurst, who hosted the event said:
The lived experiences shared on the day powerfully reinforced our belief that the answer is not simply another care service. It is a fully connected ecosystem that brings together healthcare, legal services, case management, rehabilitation and long-term support around the person. That is exactly what our Complex Injury Partnership Programme has been created to deliver.
Additional presentations came from Agincare Chief Executive Raina Summerson plus professionals covering the wider pathway following injury, including from Air Ambulance emergency response, Circle Health Group, Bevan Brittan, Circle Case Management, Headway Charity and others.

Comments from attendees included:
Highly insightful day. Varied speakers really showed the rounded picture on how complex injury to indepedance works and all the differentc people involved and their needs and pain points
The Agincare team were fantastic. The event had a great atmosphere, it would be great to see more solicitors, NHS, and service providers at these events as the speakers were really insightful – especially the client story, as I found that to be quite a powerful presentation and live chat!
Following the success of their first seminar Agincare is hosting further events focused on complex injury support, with the next ‘The Family Journey after Injury’ taking place on 11 November 2026.
A national framework that confirms what we already do
Agincare’s Complex Injury Partnership Programme has long championed this joined-up philosophy. While case managers and legal professionals lead the broader coordination, CIPP bridges the gap that often exists between discharge and real life. The programme is connecting families, clinical teams and wider support around the person, and ensuring that care never becomes a barrier to the life they want to live.
Sam Mayes, Managing Director at Agincare, said:
This event confirmed what many of us already knew; that there are excellent professionals working across every part of the system, but too often they are operating separately rather than together. For individuals recovering from traumatic injury and for their families, that fragmentation can create unnecessary stress, delay and uncertainty at a time when clarity and joined-up support are essential.
