Bridging the Gap in the Complex Injury Journey: Insights from Agincare’s Injury to Independence Seminar

June 19, 2026

Connecting professionals across the complex injury sector to improve recovery and long-term independence.

For individuals living with a complex or life changing injury, the pathway from hospital to independence is often fragmented, despite the involvement of multiple professionals and services.

Recognising this challenge, Agincare hosted its inaugural Injury to Independence seminar at Southampton Football Club on the 12th May. The event brought together healthcare professionals, case managers, legal experts and rehabilitation specialists to explore how greater collaboration can improve outcomes following serious injury.

Hosted by Adam Luckhurst, Director and Shareholder at Agincare, the seminar brought together leading voices from across social care, rehabilitation, legal services and case management. Attendees heard from Raina Summerson, Chief Executive of Agincare, alongside Kayleigh Beckles from Circle Case Management, Dr Hay Ming Blunt from Circle Health Group, Julie Charlton from Bevan Brittan, Gabi Norman from Air Ambulance and Tara Doey from Headway Southampton and West Wessex.

The event also featured lived experience speakers Ben Bourne and Brendon Feeley, who shared their experiences of living with life changing injuries and navigating the recovery journey. Ben spoke about his recovery following a traumatic brain injury, while Brendon and his mother Beverley reflected on the impact of coordinated support following a spinal cord injury sustained during childhood.

The Challenge

A consistent theme emerged throughout the day. While there is no shortage of expertise within the sector, there remains a disconnect between the services supporting people following complex injury. Individuals and families are often required to navigate multiple teams, referral pathways and funding arrangements at a time when stability and clarity are needed most.

One of the most valuable aspects of the seminar was bringing professionals from across the recovery pathway into the same room to discuss the challenges they encounter within their respective roles.

Case managers identified ongoing difficulties in sourcing specialist care, particularly in rural and remote areas where provision can be limited. Legal professionals discussed the need for robust reporting and evidence to support decision making, while healthcare professionals reflected on the challenges of ensuring continuity between hospital discharge, rehabilitation and long-term support.

The discussions reinforced a clear message: better outcomes require a more connected approach across the recovery pathway.

The Response

These discussions reinforced why Agincare created its Complex Injury Partnership Programme (CIPP).

Designed to bridge the gap between rehabilitation, legal services and long-term care, CIPP provides a connected approach to recovery. Working alongside case managers and solicitors, Agincare supports not only the delivery of specialist care, but also the wider coordination required to achieve successful outcomes.

Through its national network and fully managed service model, Agincare can mobilise complex care anywhere in the country within 48 hours, helping ensure individuals receive the right support when they need it while reducing delays that can impact recovery and independence.

CIPP supports legal professionals by providing outcome reporting and evidence-based information, giving greater visibility of an individual’s progress while reducing administrative burden for the professionals coordinating their care.

Unlike traditional care providers, Agincare’s Complex Injury Partnership Programme has been developed around the needs of case managers and solicitors. By providing fully managed, regulated care, outcome reporting and national access to specialist complex care, CIPP helps remove many of the operational challenges discussed throughout the day. Adam Luckhurst, Director and Shareholder at Agincare, explained:

The objective is not simply to provide another service. It is to create a connected ecosystem that brings together healthcare, rehabilitation, legal services, case management and long-term support around a shared goal of helping people rebuild their lives.

Outcomes and Next Steps

Agincare is continuing to develop its Complex Injury Partnership Programme, building stronger relationships across social care, legal and rehabilitation sectors while helping create clearer pathways from injury through to long term independence.

Following strong demand from attendees, Injury to Independence will return on the 8th September, bringing the conversation to London and creating an opportunity for an even wider network of professionals to explore the challenges and opportunities within complex injury support.

Agincare will also launch the second event in its Complex Care Series, The Family Journey after Injury on the 11th November, continuing to bring together industry experts, partners and professionals to share insights, strengthen relationships and improve outcomes for those living with complex injuries.
