Tennyson Court extra care housing
We know that retaining independence matters to you. That’s why our extra care housing schemes provide tailored support to help you manage your daily living needs and continue to maintain your normal lifestyle and routines. Many living at Tennyson Court require no care or support at all, while others receive structured or ad-hoc services as part of their tenancy.
Tennyson Court is located in Taunton, Somerset and offers a range of one and two bedroom self-contained apartments. All apartments include an open plan lounge, diner and kitchen, as well as underfloor heating and secure door entry system.
The service is designed for people with a wide variety of needs. The whole site is wheelchair accessible and all 66 flats are equip with a care line alarm system.
Anyone over the age of 55 can rent or purchase an apartment at Tennyson Court with care available as an additional service. Our team of professional care workers are on-site 24 hours a day and work alongside the scheme manager to ensure a safe and supportive living environment.
Life at Tennyson Court
At Tennyson Court, residents live within their own home, surrounded by their furniture and possessions. The scheme is monitored by our 24/7 care service which allows tenants to live independently, safe in the knowledge that help is on hand should they need it.
Residents enjoy communal areas such as a lounge, public restaurant and wonderful landscaped gardens. There is also a cafe, hairdressing salon and roof terrace gardens to enjoy.
Community is at the heart of this scheme, making it the ideal home for those looking to share their retirement with other, like minded individuals. Regular activities include flexercise-wheelchair/armchair exercise, takeaway evenings, themed days, coffee mornings and board game evenings.
“I moved into Tennyson just 2 months after it opened its beautiful here, a brand new building and large gardens. I like it here because I feel safe as not just any one can come in, I also feel safe as the carers are here all day and all night so if I fall or become unwell I can use my pendant and the carers are there. I just love it we have film afternoons, games evenings, take away nights the carers are all lovely and we have lots of laughs together I am so happy her.”

Unlike sheltered housing, extra care schemes are regulated and rated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The Care Quality Commission is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. They inspect and regulate all fully managed care services, including our extra care schemes. Each inspection asked five key questions: Are they safe? Are they effective? Are they caring? Are they responsive to people’s needs? And are they well-led?
This level of quality assurance is not possible from an introductory home care agency who are unregulated and only take responsibility for putting you in touch with a self-employed care worker.

The cost of extra care will vary depending on whether you are renting or buying your accommodation, the scheme you choose and the level of care you require.
Typically, extra care costs are significantly lower than the cost of a care home which usually starts at £895 per week. With extra care, you pay only for the care you need. Unlike in a care home where you pay a flat fee for 24-hour care, in extra care you pay per hour of care used, with flexible visits that can increase or decrease based on your needs.
You may be able to get help with your rent and/or service charges through Housing Benefit (if you are renting) or Pension Credit (if you own your own home). Help with council tax and the cost of care may also be available through your local authority.
If you live in an extra care scheme, home care visits will be provided by the on-site care team. These are often commissioned by the local authority in partnership with the housing provider. Before arranging care, it is important to find out which care company provides care to your scheme.

Whether it’s help with household tasks, personal care or companionship while one of you goes out, we can put in place flexible care that enables you to continue living together.
This cannot be guaranteed by other full-time care options such as a care home which may see you and your loved one placed in different rooms or even different areas of the home.
