Our newest home is now welcoming new residents!
Nightingale Care & Nursing Home in Sunny Hill, Derby, is now open after a full refurbishment and restoration.
Our home provides high-quality residential, nursing, end-of-life and palliative care for older people with dementia.
We have a wealth of specialist experience of caring for people with mixed care and nursing needs. At Nightingale, we don’t label people. We treat everyone as an individual. As their needs change, so do the level and type of care they receive from us. Nightingale is their home.
Our home is well-connected to the local community with a bus stop right outside, three parks at an easy walking distance, and the Royal Derby Hospital just a 10 minute drive away.
As well as caring for our residents we care about their families too. We don’t have set visiting times, and our door is always open for a chat. We also have a quarterly residents’ and families’ forum and listen to feedback and suggestions.
We’ve created a relaxed and homely environment for all our residents. On the ground floor we have a large lounge with TV and plenty of room for activities, with two additional lounges on the first floor.
Our lounges are a good spot for quieter activities and reminiscing. We’ve gathered lots of objects to stimulate memories and conversations, including books, records, old magazines and memorabilia.
Residents and visitors are welcome to use the free Nightingale Wi-Fi. All our care homes have an iPad for residents to use – Skype calls work really well – and for families to use when they visit.
Following a large investment, the home has undergone exciting development work, and a complete, state-of-the-art refurbishment. We are delighted that Nightingale is open with 30 bedrooms, with more on the way. We are registered for 59 residents in total.
53 of our bedrooms have en-suite facilities, and all rooms have accessible bathrooms nearby.
Many of the bedrooms look out onto the garden, and most of our ground-floor bedrooms have direct garden access.
We encourage residents to personalise their rooms with their own photos and furniture. Personal possessions help residents feel at home, and provide extra stimulation and time for reminiscence.
We have a lovely garden with level lawns at the front of the house, and another secure and enclosed one at the back of the home. There are planters and beds for flowers and vegetables, plus plenty of room to sit out and enjoy the sunshine.
Our residents love to watch the wildlife in the garden, or simply enjoy a cup of tea with visiting loved ones.
All our staff go on an intensive three-day Agincare induction and training before starting at Nightingale and we also have have excellent support from our local GPs and district nurses.
We like to be sociable. Our residents love having animals to visit, including pets and more exotic creatures.
Singing and dancing are favourite activities at Nightingale, with regular singers performing a variety of music.
We pick and choose activities enjoy from a long list of ideas from pottery and bingo to trips out to the local parks and shops are a firm favourite.
Good, wholesome home-cooked food is essential at a care & nursing home. Our cooks prepare traditional and seasonal meals. And they always ask for feedback from our residents, and are more than willing to adapt menus. Our kitchen staff have received a 5* ‘Very Good’ rating from the Food Standards Agency.
Mealtimes are really important to us. We encourage our residents to eat together as there are so many social and nutritional benefits. However, people can choose to eat their meals in private too, if they prefer.
We have picture and written menus, but we always re-offer before serving, to check our residents haven’t changed their minds about what they’d like to eat.

Nightingale has all the makings of a truly fantastic care and nursing home, with great facilities following the extensive refurbishment and renovation work. I am very excited to lead an excellent care team and look forward to building a warm and welcoming community in the home by getting to know each and every resident and their loved ones.
I feel privileged to embark upon the next chapter in my career back in my home city with Agincare, which is family-owned and places a genuine emphasis on person-centred care based on the wishes and needs of each resident.
