If you are looking for a good care home in Swanage, then look no further.
Gainsborough Care Home in Swanage has been rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulator following recent inspection.
The home in Ulwell Road provides high quality residential, respite and dementia care for people aged 65 or over. It is run by leading independent care provider Agincare.
The home has moved to Good from Requires Improvement at previous inspection (October 2020). This is based on inspection findings in ‘well-led’ and ‘safe’ categories, and with no areas of concern identified in ‘caring’, ‘effective’ and ‘responsive’ categories.
A CQC inspector and an ‘expert by experience’ carried out the inspection, which came without warning on the 15th of October 2021.
They gathered feedback from the local authority and professionals who work with the home, and also reviewed care, medication and personnel records, plus other information related to management of the home.
They spoke with residents and their relatives about their experience of care provided at the home, with team members and the registered manager also interviewed.
Inspectors found that people felt safe and happy living at Gainsborough Care Home and that it enjoyed a friendly, person-centred and open culture.
The inspection report is published on the CQC website.
The report included many positive comments from residents, relatives and team members about the home and the impact of Registered Manager Louise Van Dorn, who said:

Many of our homes have gardening clubs with enthusiastic residents bringing their skills and experience to the fore to help brighten up the surroundings. At Gainsborough, resident Shirley has really dug in this summer to help transform the care home’s gardens – find out more about Shirley’s story.
Food, nutrition and diet are important parts of care home life for good health and well-being, with the challenge to create varied and tasty choices.
