It’s been all treats and no tricks in our care homes across the country! Our wonderful activities teams have been busy at work to create fun, atmosphere and experiences to be enjoyed by all.
Find out below how our homes celebrated and discover a little Halloween treat at the end of this article!
At Gorseway Manor, our Hayling Island care home, the excitement has been non-stop.
Having carved enough pumpkins to fill a patch, residents filled the run-up to Halloween with spooky activities. From mask-making to fancy dress, on the day itself they enjoyed Pin the Smile on The Pumpkin and a tabletop game called Graveyard Smash!
It was the games that were most popular… that and a little bit of zombie dancing to The Monster Mash! Everyone had a great time. We received lovely compliments from the families that came in, especially about the decorations, which some of the residents actually had a hand in!
The whole team from care to maintenance helped me organise. The effort matters and was absolutely worth it, every minute, just to see the residents’ faces.
-Toni Knight, Gorseway Manor’s Activities Coordinator
Cheriton Care Home, Dorchester, has been having a great ghoulish time. On Halloween day, residents and their visiting loved ones really put the “boo” in boogie at Cheriton’s party!
Helen Persey, Cheriton’s new Registered Manager, was blown away to see what the home was capable of.
Thirty residents attended, as well as relatives! There was music, fun hats, party games and themed food. It was all organised by Aaron Woodford, one of our Senior Care Assistants, and Johanna Casemore, one of our Activitices Coordinators – they did brilliantly. I popped in to the party myself and residents were all dancing, they were clearly having a lovely time. They were all very tired by bedtime!
It was spectacular, I am so proud of the team.
– Helen
In our Bexhill care home, Halloween was all fun and games. The home’s activities team, who recently organised an armchair travel trip to Spain, stepped it up again to entertain with new antics.
After relaxing with autumnal arts and crafts in the run-up, it was time for a little mischief on the day. Following an energetic game of Pass the Pumpkin, residents loved playing ring-toss with witch hats, tasty seasonal sweets, and even went pumpkin bobbing!
Crecy Care Home, Weymouth, was not to be outdone with incredible individualised care.
As Crecy provides specialist mental health support, the team knows that the most important thing in planning fun is keeping it person-centred. Registered Manager Vicky Boursnell-Brooks said this of their events:
We always consult with our residents and what they want, so we basically had two events. Downstairs we had Fright Night – we streamed some horror films by popular demand and the people who wanted a scare had a really great time. Upstairs we were more low-key, and residents enjoyed spooky Pass the Parcel and lots of group games instead! Everyone had the same delicious buffet – severed finger cakes, brain jelly, gummy worms. There was something to suit everyone.
Residents had so much fun that they’ve asked us to plan a big bonfire night… which is just around the corner!
– Vicky
Queensferry Court Care Home in Derby made sure to thrill both residents and visitors. A grand party was thrown on Halloween afternoon that everybody dressed up to the nines for, with friends and family all on the guest list!
Devilish treats such as creepy cupcakes, spooky cookies and scary sandwiches were on the menu.
Because we welcome visitors all year round, seeing families enjoy the occasion together was wonderful. With lovely decor creating a makeshift photobooth, residents and their loved ones took pictures together in their costumes and made memories.
As promised, enjoy our musical round-up of Agincare’s Halloween highlights!
We put people first every step of the way and have been proud to do so for over 35 years.
