Your care home worker

We’re incredibly proud of our care home staff. Experienced, well-trained, kind and friendly, it’s their role to help you feel at home, cared-for and valued.

Taking time to understand you as a person

We’re passionate about treating our residents as people. We take the time to get to know you as an individual – your history, likes and dislikes, hopes and stories.

Understanding you helps us tailor our care to you. And our bespoke person-centred care helps you stay as active and independent as you can be – with choice and dignity.

Going the extra mile

You can read about each care home’s staff on our care home pages. And we’ve collected a few stories here to give you a taste of how our staff regularly go the extra mile for our care home residents:

  • The team at Fulford Care Home set up bingo sessions for a resident who used to be a bingo caller. That resident now leads the session with friends and relatives from the community coming in to join in
  • A member of the Maumbury Care Home team regularly taking a residents’ woollens home to wash them in a particular powder
  • One of our senior care workers at our Waterloo Care Home attends the local Dementia Friends group and will often take residents to the gardening or woodwork classes, all in her own time
  • A member of our Edgehill Care Home housekeeping team takes a resident over to the local club on a Friday evening. This helps the resident maintain relationships that are important to him

Working as a team

At each home there are care staff, housekeeping staff and kitchen staff all working together to help you feel at home. Each of them plays a key role in the smooth-running of a happy care home.

Each of our care homes has an experienced registered manager, who manages the daily business of the home. They’ll get to know you and your family, and are on hand should you have a question, suggestion, concern or complaint.

In turn our managers have a strong Agincare support network. We have operations managers and an operations director, all of whom have years of experience of working in a variety of roles in care homes and other areas of care. They know care inside-out and are passionate about creating high-quality comfortable and supportive care homes.

Care home staff training

Our care home staff go on an intensive two/three day Agincare induction before starting at one of our care homes.

Training covers many topics including:

  • Safe moving and handling
  • Infection control
  • Dementia and cognitive impairment
  • Nutrition and hydration
  • Fire awareness
  • Food hygiene

This is then followed by a 12-week induction, competency and training period.

Once our care staff have successfully completed a three-month probation they have the option to move on to a QCF Level 2 or 3 qualification in health and social care.

As well as regular reviews and supervisions we carry out mandatory annual and two-year refresher training, plus multiple specialist training including subjects such as Alzheimer’s, end of life care, epilepsy, diabetes, stroke and Parkinson’s.
