A Day in the Life of Louise and Richard

January 30, 2026

Since March 2019, Louise and Richard have been supported by Agincare through a long-term live-in care arrangement, primarily provided by care worker Petronela. This support has transformed their lives, allowing them to live together safely and independently at home, something that would not have been possible before.

The Challenge of Full-Time Care

Louise, who lives with spina bifida, remains largely independent, managing most of her personal care herself, while Richard, who lives with Becker muscular dystrophy, receives support with personal care tasks and transfers. Petronela’s tailored approach ensures that both can maintain daily routines, from meal preparation and drinks to keeping their wheelchairs charged, while remaining fully engaged in each day.

With live-in care in place, Louise and Richard have been able to enjoy an active lifestyle, participating in community activities that were previously out of reach.

A Transformative Change

They regularly visit the beach, local parks, go shopping, and enjoy meals at pubs, with mobility and safety fully supported by Petronela. At home, they pursue hobbies suited to their interests, with Richard building Lego structures and Louise working on cross-stitch, jigsaws and Christmas cards, while still enjoying evenings together watching films and relaxing.

A Lymington Getaway

Most recently, they were able to take a holiday in Lymington, with Petronela ensuring care was maintained throughout. This allowed them to travel safely, maintain their routines, and enjoy a change of scenery; an experience that would have been impossible without live-in support.

Agincare’s care has provided Louise and Richard with stability, safety, and personalised support, enabling them to live together at home with dignity, confidence, and independence. It demonstrates how live-in care can open up opportunities, enrich daily life, and empower people to continue doing the things they love.
