Brushett House in Bournemouth contains one and two bedroom apartments, each with a spacious lounge, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. The scheme is monitored by our 24/7 care team who are always on hand should you need support, whether that is regular times each week or in an emergency.
The scheme benefits from a communal lounge, hobby and IT room, library and spacious garden for you to relax in or join the multitude of activities that take place each day.
The development is designed for people living with low to moderate dementia and other people who need care and support. However, Brushett House also provides independent and secure extra care housing for those who are likely to become more vulnerable over time.
Life at Brushett House
At Brushett House, you can continue to live in a home of your own, surrounded by your furniture and possessions. All apartments within the scheme are monitored by our 24/7 care service and are fitted with Careline alarms should you need emergency support.
Communal facilities include a lounge, hobby andIT room, laundry room, library and spacious garden. Every day, between 2pm and 4pm, activities take place for residents who are welcome to take part if they wish to.
There are also themed evenings and memory clinics which all contribute to the powerful community spirit at Brushett House.

Our professional care team are on hand 24 hours a day to ensure those living at Brushett House feel safe and supported in their own homes. They provide a range of services including personal care, help with household tasks, medication management and regular check ins.

Unlike sheltered housing, extra care schemes are regulated and rated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The Care Quality Commission is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. They inspect and regulate all fully managed care services, including our extra care schemes. Each inspection asked five key questions: Are they safe? Are they effective? Are they caring? Are they responsive to people’s needs? And are they well-led?
This level of quality assurance is not possible from an introductory home care agency who are unregulated and only take responsibility for putting you in touch with a self-employed care worker.

The cost of extra care will vary depending on whether you are renting or buying your accommodation, the scheme you choose and the level of care you require.
Typically, extra care costs are significantly lower than the cost of a care home which usually starts at £895 per week. With extra care, you pay only for the care you need. Unlike in a care home where you pay a flat fee for 24-hour care, in extra care you pay per hour of care used, with flexible visits that can increase or decrease based on your needs.
You may be able to get help with your rent and/or service charges through Housing Benefit (if you are renting) or Pension Credit (if you own your own home). Help with council tax and the cost of care may also be available through your local authority.
If you live in an extra care scheme, home care visits will be provided by the on-site care team. These are often commissioned by the local authority in partnership with the housing provider. Before arranging care, it is important to find out which care company provides care to your scheme.

They will listen to your needs and wishes before booking in your free, no obligation care assessment to determine what level of support you need. Once this is confirmed, you are all set to go. In addition to regular care visits, you will also receive ongoing support from a designated Care Coordinator who will be your point of call for any questions or concerns.
Extra care gives couples the option to continue living together in a home of their own despite different levels of care needs.
With on-site support, you or your loved one can receive regular home care visits from our professional team of care workers. Whether it’s help with household tasks, personal care or companionship while one of you goes out, we can put in place flexible care that enables you to continue living together.
This cannot be guaranteed by other full-time care options such as a care home which may see you and your loved one placed in different rooms or even different areas of the home.
