Dementia Nurse & Admiral Nurse

Our specialist dementia nurse

Agincare is committed to being a front-runner in providing excellent dementia care.

We are proud that Agincare was the first care company in the UK to employ a Consultant Admiral Nurse providing specialist dementia support. In that role Jo Palmer’s focus was on working collaboratively with Agincare staff and other professionals to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and their carers.

Now we’ve decided to build on our Admiral Nurse experience and develop our own in-house Agincare specialist dementia nurse role.

In this key position Jo Palmer draws on a wealth of mental health nursing experience to give strategic, professional, clinical leadership and consultancy in care and nursing practice throughout Agincare and with partner providers of health and social care.

Jo also influences training and education programmes right across Agincare, to increase awareness and promote best practice in dementia care.

Specialist dementia training for Agincare staff

“My role as specialist dementia nurse lead is to promote best practice and the latest learning in dementia to all Agincare staff, whether they work in care homes, provide live-in care or domiciliary care, or work in Agincare’s Dorset head office. Some of the key skills that are invaluable are the ‘softer’ ones, such as communication, empathy and compassion.

“I have many years’ experience working as a nurse and a mental health nurse. My role here at Agincare has included time as a Consultant Admiral Nurse (Agincare was the first private care company to employ a full time Admiral Nurse) providing specialist dementia support.”
