New Year’s Eve was a red-letter day at our care homes on Hayling Island, as 44 residents and 41 care team members at Gorseway Nursing Home and Gorseway Manor Care Home received the Pfizer COVID vaccine.
Two GPs and two nurses from the homes’ local surgery administered the vaccine, in two dedicated areas on the Gorseway site.
Residents were extremely positive about having their vaccinations. Rosemary (82) said:
I’m looking forward to being able to hug my family soon, it’s been such a long time. I will be able to go into hospital for my operation, feeling safer and protected.
Naomi Edge is the Registered Manager at our Hayling Island care homes:
Having nearly all our residents and care team members vaccinated together felt like such a positive step forward for us. All we want to do is give our residents a safe and happy home, including visits from family and friends with fewer restrictions.
We have started the new year by turning a corner in the fight against coronavirus. We’re looking forward to making plans for 2021.
The recently-refurbished Gorseway Manor Care Home has en-suite single bedrooms across the ground floor and first floor. Some of these rooms can accommodate couples (depending on availability). There is plenty of communal space, including a grand dining room.
The dedicated team at Gorseway Nursing Home offers caring nursing, dementia, end of life, respite and convalescence care in a comfortable and homely environment. Read team leader Ruth’s insight into her working day at Gorseway Nursing Home.
Chief Operating Officer of Agincare care homes, Tim Buckley, said:
We’ve been working closely with local health organisations to make sure our care home residents and care team members across the country are offered a vaccination as soon as possible. We’re looking forward to completing the vaccination programme in all our Agincare care and nursing homes very soon.
The vaccine should give the public more confidence in care homes, as safe and supportive places for their loved ones to be.
Our Hayling Island care homes couldn’t have a lovelier location and site. The Gorseway community site is on the seafront, across from Hayling Island’s Blue Flag-winning beach and next to a lovely golf course. We are also easily accessible, within easy reach of the M27 and A27 and only 10 miles from the city of Portsmouth.
And the Gorseway gardens are stunning, with a large pond, complete with koi carp. There are lots of places to sit and enjoy the views and the local wildlife.
