Marie opens a new chapter for Fulford Care & Nursing Home

It is an exciting time for Fulford Care & Nursing Home as a new chapter opens. Welcoming a new Registered Manager and a new dementia wing, our Littlehampton home has two very good reasons to celebrate!
On the 18th of January, care team and residents alike celebrated the opening of Godwin Wing, organised by Fulford’s new Registered Manager, Marie Forrester.
Meet Marie, Fulford’s new Registered Manager
Experienced care professional Marie Forrester takes the reins as Registered Manager. Marie is a qualified nurse and has over two decades’ experience working in nursing homes, where she demonstrated a talent for dementia care, quality assurance and a strong team ethic.
I’m excited to take Fulford to its full potential. We have a great team here, a great community of residents. Residents living their lives the way they want to is what it’s all about, and we have big plans for the future. The feel of Fulford is very special, it’s really just like home.

What brought Marie to Fulford is, in her words, “the exciting potential”.
As a home from home for residents, what’s special about Fulford is its lovely seaside location and its vibrant community. Across its two main floors, residents love to socialise and visit one another for catch-ups over coffee, activities, and group gatherings. Because of this, Marie knew that Godwin Wing had to be more than a specialist dementia development. It had to be an extension of the residents’ home.
Good times in Godwin Wing
As well as bringing specialist dementia care to the home, Godwin Wing offers new communal areas for relaxation and leisure.
A new roof garden is open to residents, complete with comfortable seating areas and a lovely view of the grounds. Here, residents can enjoy the sunshine with a cup of tea, freshly made in Godwin’s lounge kitchen. The lounge itself is ideal for social activities, furnished with home comforts and decorated lovingly. The care and attention put in by Marie shows.
The photographs and paintings on the wall… they’re all of Littlehampton and Chichester. They’re landmarks that many of our residents will remember, having grown up and lived around here. I just think you want a touch of home, don’t you?

None of the love put into Godwin has been lost on our residents. Invited into the lounge for an afternoon of activities, the home came together to celebrate the opening and have their voices heard.
Residents at the heart
One resident, Jeanette, attended to see her friends and play dominoes. In her years of living at Fulford, Jeanette has always been quick to roll up her sleeves and take on projects around the home. As a result, she is now eagerly awaiting springtime, when the roof garden can begin to be tended to.
It’s a lovely space, with a great view of the garden looking out the balcony. I’ve been here 3 years, I wake up every day and know I’ve made the right choice! I would have been very lonely otherwise, and now I have these people around me.

There were refreshments, games and music, with Marie taking the opportunity to get to know the residents better.
Because our care is person-centred, our care teams are always seeking feedback. The day was marked by new connections, new facilities, and new options for all.
