Fun, football and full steam ahead at Cheriton Care Home

Published: Wednesday 7th July 2021

Residents at Cheriton, our Dorchester care home, have joined in the fun as football fever grips the nation during the Euro 2020 championship.

Care home residents and team members cheered on as England sent out Germany, Ukraine and Denmark in the knock out stages; and will be sure to follow the three lions’ fortunes into the final with Italy!

With Wimbledon in full swing, and Tokyo Summer Olympics set to follow, there’s plenty for sport lovers at the home to enjoy in coming weeks.

As well as welcoming family visits indoors, and outdoors in the home’s beautiful outdoor areas and gardens, residents are also joining in with lots of activities.

Cheriton’s location on Weymouth Avenue, close to Dorchester’s town centre, is perfect for trips to the nearby Borough Gardens, Brewery Square and shops, accompanied by care workers or loved ones.

Cheriton’s gorgeous gardens are really coming into their own now that summer has arrived, and are proving to be a great way for residents to connect with nature.

Members of the Cheriton Gardening Club help pot up bulbs and tend vegetable seedlings donated by the local community.

Topping-up the bird feeders, which attract beautiful birds and the occasional squirrel into the gardens, is an important job too.

Some residents just like to relax outside with friends or family, and watch as resident tortoise Trott gently makes his way around the garden.

Manager Denise Chrippes said:

“With Wimbledon, the football championship and warmer weather, summer has truly arrived and is bringing lots of fun to Cheriton Care Home.

“Our gardens have come into their own, with lots of space for activities but also quiet, more secluded areas for residents to relax and enjoy being outdoors, or spend time with loved-ones.

“It has been lovely to welcome more and more visitors into the home, and our residents have been out and about exploring the local area too.

“Social interaction is incredibly important for well-being, so it’s something we really focus on getting right at Cheriton Care Home.

“It’s good for our residents, and lots of fun for the team to get involved with too.”
