Specialist dementia training

All staff can access dementia-specific training to help them understand the needs of a person living with dementia and develop their knowledge and experience.

Our specialist dementia lead nurse Jo Palmer has developed a Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Dementia Care, which has achieved accreditation by NCFE, in conjunction with Agincare’s own training company. This diploma develops and expands the skills and knowledge of staff working across Agincare services.

Jo also holds dementia workshops for staff and care talks for local communities and relatives.

All-staff training

All our care and support workers complete the standards of the care certificate, the nationally recognised training standards for all health and social care workers, which include the basic principles of dementia care.

Needs-led training

Specific client needs-led training is taught by internal and external trainers and/or healthcare professionals.

Dementia Champions

Agincare runs a Dementia Champions programme. Our Dementia Champions act as leaders, sharing best practice in person-centred dementia care and supporting all care workers across the organisation.

Learning from the people we provide care for

The greatest learning our staff can receive is that provided by the people using the services, and their family and friends. Our person-centred approach to care is focussed around each individual and their family.

We really get to know everyone so we can help them feel reassured and comfortable – learning their unique biography, their needs and preferences for how they like things to be.

And our relationship-centred approach means we work in collaboration with the person’s family, friends and people who are important to them to plan and implement a bespoke plan of dementia care.
