Motor neurone disease – care and support for younger adults

We understand how challenging a diagnosis of motor neurone disease (MND) can be. That’s why we’re here to help.

Motor neurone disease can develop at any age. It can have many symptoms, for instance, loss of strength, difficulty swallowing, trouble with speech and mobility issues. As a result of its varied effects and progressive nature, your needs are likely to change over time. Our priority is tailoring your care completely to you, to help you live life to the fullest.

We are experienced in supporting younger adults with a range of neurological conditions. Our live-in teams will take great care in getting to know you (what matters to you, your hobbies and aspirations) as well as the details of your MND to personalise your care.

If your MND is part of a set of needs, making care requirements more complex, our Enable service has the skills and experience to support you.

As MND progresses, you may find that you require not only physical but also emotional support. Staying within your own surroundings means staying near loved ones in a familiar setting, and helps you to keep positive and remain independent during some challenging times.

Working with your medical specialists, your plan will ensure you receive the correct treatment, whilst being able to live a full and active life.

Those with MND may face difficult decisions such as considering a feeding or breathing tube. Your assistant, along with the wider Agincare live-in team, will work with you and your family to discuss your options and find the best solution.

All our care workers complete the nationally recognised care certificate. Specific client needs-led training is taught by our training partner Training Now and healthcare professionals.
