Last week we said a big thank you to a member of our home care team in Weymouth and Portland for 25 years’ service.
Kath Shayler from Weymouth joined our home care team in October 1995. She has been supporting two local brothers with daily home care visits ever since.
Kath said:
Every day is different, and I never know what I’m going to get when I start work. I think the traits a good care worker needs to have are things like being caring (this goes without saying), compassionate, trustworthy, patient, kind and reliable. Having cared for the brothers for so long, I’d like to think that I’ve been a positive part of their lives.
Thanking Kath for her hard work and dedication, Agincare Chairman Derek Luckhurst presented her with a cheque for £500.
After being part of our Weymouth home care team for so long, Kath is definitely one of the Agincare family. But we never take our care workers for granted, and I was delighted to be able to thank her in person for her long service. We, and the people she cares for so well, are incredibly grateful to her.
Being a care worker isn’t a job for Kath, it’s a way of life.
As well as being a valued member of the Weymouth home care team, Kath and her husband Roy are also foster carers. They have fostered more than 150 children since the 1970s, and were both awarded an MBE in 2016 for providing a loving foster home for children.
