Music, laughter, drinks and dancing were all part of the New Year’s Eve fun at Fulford, our care and nursing home in Littlehampton.
As 2022 drew to a close, our care homes across the country were all celebrating in their own ways. Our care is person-centred, and activities are always tailored to delight residents. Because of this, some homes held countdown parties, some enjoyed fancy dress, and some simply wanted a relaxing night. However, Fulford’s plans were different!
Fulford is our warm and welcoming home situated in the beautiful seaside town of Littlehampton in West Sussex. The team supports people with physical disabilities or limited mobility, and as such, our care always keeps residents at the heart.
Activities Coordinator Christine Tingley had this to say:
I wanted to build on last year’s celebrations because they went down such a treat. Because of this I knew residents would be thrilled again. I wanted to do something special for them – lots of music, drinks, happiness. When I announced it all of the residents were so excited!
Packing this much fun into one night wouldn’t be easy, but the team was ready to make it happen. First up, drinks and delicious party food were served, then the fun at Fulford really began. Christine said:
We had lots of fun with photo props and a game of pass-the-parcel which is a big crowd favourite. Finally, I had prepared lots of balloons to release for a big balloon drop!
During the party Christine was reminded just how important celebrations like these are.
She remembers:
One of our younger residents came along with her mum. They were sitting on the sofa playing with the balloons together. Seeing them spending quality time together like that having fun, I asked if they would like to have a dance. Knowing what music the resident liked, I decided to put Wham! on. They both stood up and danced together. It was lovely to see.
The next day the resident’s mum wanted to see me. She said I should pat myself on the back and carry on doing a great job. She said she hasn’t seen her daughter dance for years.
Throughout the celebrations visitors were welcomed to join in. With the team, visiting loved ones, and the residents all in high spirits, the year was truly sent off with a blast. Special requests were made by many residents for their favourite party songs as the home welcomed 2023 in style.
Oh, we were all ready for a good night’s sleep! Residents definitely had a nice lie-in the next day!

Fulford has had another great year. The home led the way for Care Home Open Week in the summer, and enjoyable events have not slowed down in the winter. Because of the dedication of our activities team, the festive period was full of performers, games, crafts and more. As a result, this New Year’s Eve excitement was simply the cherry on top.
We put people first every step of the way and have been proud to do so for over 35 years.
