Investing in the future of supported living at Enable

Agincare Enable is developing its supported living services at Maidstone Road.

An extension to one of the two bungalows at the Maidstone road site is the next step in Agincare Enable’s commitment to providing bespoke supported living environments that address and accommodate the needs of specific individuals coming into the service.

The supported living accommodation sits within the grounds of the main house, along with another two-bedroom bungalow, and offers its tenant their own space including lounge and garden.

Responding to individual needs

Whilst the existing open-plan layout created a welcoming, bright environment, there was scope to further enhance the supported living service.

Leanne, Locality Manager, explains:

We are committed to delivering person-centered, less restrictive, capable environments. We didn’t initially have the capability within this space for someone to deliver night support, so the answer was to add an extra living space where they can sit; further enhancing the individual’s privacy and independence.

Person-centered modelling of the living environment includes a bespoke colour scheme and the moving of electrical sockets and radiators.

Creating bespoke supported living environments

The exciting new project acknowledges the relationship between the living environment and the support it enables.

Mark, Operations Director, for Enable explains:

This extension is a response to an assessment of the individual’s specific need.  As a progressive support provider Agincare Enable are committed to creating capable environments which can only be achieved by considering our approach and practice, and the nature of the space in which the individual is supported.

The evolution of the service means that the new tenant will be able to live in his own, manageable space designed for his needs. He will have the option to join in and socialise, or spend time in his own home where support can still be provided.

Investing in the future of supported living

By working in partnership with the individual, families and professionals, Agincare Enable has facilitated a bespoke environment.

This development forms part of an innovative approach towards supported living which sees environments adapted to respond to individual needs.

By investing in these changes now, Enable is diversifying its service to ensure it can continue to support people long into the future. Mark adds,

These changes are future proofing the environments and supported living service we provide; adapting the space to suit a variety of needs and dependency levels.
