On Thursday 19 March care workers from our Poole home care team and our CEO Raina Summerson were featured in ITV’s programme Tonight – Coronavirus: protecting the elderly.

The programme gave us a valuable opportunity to emphasise the vital and selfless live-saving role of social care professionals right across the country. We are proud to highlight our dedication of our care workers, who are determined to continue to to deliver essential services to those who rely on our excellent care during the coronavirus outbreak.

The programme’s presenter met two of our clients, who explained just how important our care workers are to them:

  • Jan Pike is 78. Jan’s husband Marcel lives with dementia. Marcel has home care support from Sue and Jo from our Poole home care team. Jan explained how the regular visits from our care workers are vital for her, as well as her husband.
  • Tony Mace has four visits a day from his home care workers. As well as helping him maintain his independence at home, their visits give Tony invaluable social contact. As Tony said himself: “If I didn’t have them I probably wouldn’t be able to stay here, because they do so much for me.”

The programme concluded that care workers play a critical role during the coronavirus outbreak – without them the NHS would be put under even more pressure. It also meant we could reassure clients, their families and our staff that we are constantly assessing the situation and doing our utmost to be able to continue to provide quality care to vulnerable people.

Thank you to all our amazing staff. These are unprecedented times. And the work all our staff do is incredibly important. Although the programme featured one of our brilliant home care teams, we also have fantastic and dedicated people working in our live-in care, care homes and younger adults team. Thank you to all of them, plus our support staff who are keeping the wheels turning at our HQ.
