Agincare and Muntsy’s team put a shine on Castletown

Visitors to our site will know that Agincare moved to Portland from central Weymouth in the summer of 2014. This involved large scale refurbishment of an old naval building overlooking the harbour in the Castletown area. This whole area has needed much regeneration since the Ministry of Defence left over 25 years ago and Agincare have now taken a lead in working with local businesses and residents to refocus efforts and produce sustainable outcomes for the local community.

Muntsy’s, a local Community Group, led by Sue Munts with a small team of paid employees & volunteers, also have a vested interest in the area. The group of younger adults with a learning disability with whom they work have spent significant time in the area clearing litter, weeding and planting to help make it look nice for locals and visitors alike.

The two organisations have now pledged to work together, with Agincare supporting an annual donation to the group and also working with them on the planning and donation of planting in order to build on the larger regeneration of existing local buildings that Agincare is also now involved in.

Rains Summerson, CEO, says ‘the work undertaken by community groups such as Muntsy’s is invaluable, bringing local people together and providing purpose and social contact for all participants. Derek Luckhurst, Agincare’s owner and Chairman is committed to this area and its future, which is why Agincare has pledged to lead on the regeneration of Castletown. We have  made great strides with this since moving into the area, however, we cannot and do not wish to do this alone, so any way in which our organisation can support local resources to continue the work they do is important. I look forward to us working with Sue and her team to mutual benefit and for the community and hope that we will establish a positive and ongoing relationship with some visible outcomes for Castletown. This will build on other work undertaken to date by the community’
