Agincare reveal their care superstar

Published: Tuesday 18th June 2019

This Carers’ Week, Dorset-based care provider Agincare has announced the winner of its Care Superstar Award, in conjunction with local radio station, Wessex FM.

In May our two Dorchester care homes – Maumbury and Badbury – both achieved a ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission.

This achievement was due in no small part to the caring, kind and approachable care staff at both homes. The difference carers – whether they’re at home, home or live-in care staff, or in a care home – make to people’s lives every day cannot be underestimated.

We wanted to recognise that somehow, so we decided to team up with Wessex FM to invite local people to send in nominations for home carers, or someone who works for a care home or agency, who go above and beyond.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to send in nominations – we had lots of fantastic examples of the crucial role carers play. It was a tough job to choose the winner, but after careful consideration we chose Michael Harris from Charminster, near Dorchester.

Mike, 32, was nominated by his wife Lauren, who was diagnosed with MS in 2017:

“My MS has affected everything from memory to things like medication I have to take for the absolute agony of the draining fatigue. My husband, Mike, cares for me for pretty much everything – from medicating me to looking after our three children aged 2-7. He deserves this and I can’t alone give it to him.”

Wessex FM Breakfast Show DJ, Carl Ashwin, surprised Mike with the news that he’d won, presenting him with a hamper of goodies from Delicious on Weymouth Harbourside.

Mike said:

“This is fantastic – thank you. It’s hard work, but it’s worth it, it’s rewarding. I love my wife to pieces.”
