Extra care housing in Essex

Extra Care is the next step for people who are semi-independent, but just need that little bit of ‘extra care’ to support them to continue with their own lives as independently as possible.

All self-contained flats are literally under one roof, with a professional, experienced care team available 24/7 for any emergencies outside scheduled visits.

What is extra care housing?

Through our extra care services, we aim to support you to remain as independent as possible.

Agincare’s extra care services are commissioned by the Local Authority at the different sheltered/extra care scheme locations.

We provide services to people living at or moving to the scheme following appropriate Adult Services assessments of need and financial eligibility.

That means that if you have a tenancy in one of these schemes you may be eligible for support from our teams.

If you are eligible, we may be able to help with:

  • Shopping
  • Housekeeping
  • Personal care
  • Support to attend social activities
  • Help with medication
  • Dementia care
  • Night care
  • Regular welfare calls
  • Responding to emergencies and providing additional pop-in calls and support that may well prevent the need for hospital admission

Sumners Farm Close in Harlow

We provide home care services to many of the tenants of the 42 independent living flats at Sumners Farm Close in Harlow, Essex, managed by Harlow Council.

Someone living at an independent living scheme owns, rents or part-rents their own purpose-built secure, self-contained home, helping them keep their independence.

We have a friendly and professional team of 23 care workers based on site, offering care support 24/7.

There is an on-call system meaning there is always a member of the care team on-site through the night to support the tenants if they have any emergencies.

Sarah Archer is the registered manager at Sumners Farm Close:

Having an extra care scheme under my registration has added a different pathway to my career, in addition to my experience working in care homes. Extra care schemes are a cross between a care home and home care. Some residents need a full package of care or end of life care. Others just require assistance with day-to-day living.

Kelly and Carrie look after all the tenants’ queries and requests for extra support. I couldn’t do it without them.

If you are a tenant at Sumners Farm Close and would like us to support you, please call our office on 01279 213 995.

Wren House and The Cannons in Colchester and Canters Meadow Court in Clacton-on-Sea

Wendy Dark is the registered manager at three of our Extra Care sites in Essex:

  • Canters Meadow Court in Clacton-on-Sea, owned by Anchor Hanover
  • Wren House in Colchester, owned by Sanctuary Housing
  • The Cannons in Colchester, owned by Colchester Borough Homes

We support people with Parkinson’s, MS, mild learning difficulties, stroke survivors and those who are frail to live as independently as possible in their Extra Care flats and bungalows.

I am very lucky to work with more than 35 fantastic carer workers and office staff who all go that extra mile. They genuinely care about those they support, whether it’s to assist with personal care, community outings, medication assistance or even the laundry.
