Learning disability care and support

Learning disabilities affect thousands of people in different ways. We offer support designed especially for you and your family from experienced, friendly support workers.

We’ve been working with people with learning disabilities for many years, so we’ve got lots of experience of providing support to people living with Down syndrome or autism, for example.

We want you to have choice and control over how you live your life. We’ll help you shine, giving you the support you need to be as independent as you want.

You can ask us to help you a little, or a lot. It can be in your family home, or helping you live on your own. It’s about living life with the same choice, rights and responsibilities as anyone else. We’ll work with you to find the support that’s right for you.

Types of learning disability care and support

Home care

A few hours’ home care a week to help you out at home, or go with you to your regular clubs. A home care and support worker can help with:

  • Shopping
  • Housekeeping
  • Personal care
  • Companionship, including social activities
  • Help with medication

Live-in care

A live-in care support worker comes and lives in your home. They’ll spend every day with you, supporting you with things like:

  • Helping with bathing and dressing
  • Reducing anxiety
  • Helping you stay in touch with family and friends
  • Getting you the right information so you can make choices
  • Supporting you with everyday tasks, such as menu planning, cleaning and budgeting

Most importantly, they’ll be someone you can trust and talk to, like a friend.

We take time to carefully match a care worker to you, your likes and dislikes.

Napier Day Service

Spend time during the day at our Napier Day Service for young adults, where you come to meet friends and develop skills. We take the time to find out about what you like to spend time doing, and what really interests you.

Our popular activities include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Quizzes
  • Singing
  • Gardening
  • Cookery
  • Music
  • Pamper sessions
  • Relaxation sessions

We’ve also got a therapy room and Snoezelen sensory rooms. To make sure everyone can get around, all areas including the gardens have easy level access and there are ceiling track hoists throughout the building.

Respite care

Come and stay at our Napier Respite Centre for young adults or at one of our comfortable care homes. You’ll make friends and try new activities.

It’s a home-from-home, with comfortable rooms and friendly people. Many people book repeatedly to stay at the Respite Centre for a few days or a week so their family can take a short holiday or have a rest from their caring duties.
