Care for young adults

We provide bespoke care for young adults with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, chronic or terminal illness and people managing unexpected care needs, such as acquired brain injuries.

We connect you with the best Personal Assistant for your life and create a support plan together to enable you to lead an active and fulfilled life at home, in education or at work.

With a Personal Assistant you will be able to seize life’s opportunities, make a wider range of choices and break down the barriers to living life to the full.

Whether you are making the transition from school to college, or from university to the workplace, our support service provides a full-time solution and is flexible enough to be a realistic and affordable alternative to other forms of support.

As our service is fully managed you do not need to undertake the duties of an employer and you have the peace of mind of knowing your support worker’s holidays will be paid for and covered. They will have undergone all the required checks (eg DBS) and their training will be updated annually – all included in the reasonable weekly cost.

What will I be expected to provide?

The care and support worker will live with you so requires their own room for sleeping, with a bed, linen and somewhere to hang their clothes. You will also be expected to provide the resources for their meals (unless the funder of your care and support has agreed to include this). You are not expected to provide for any special dietary requirements of your care and support worker.

What support is provided?

We generally say that our staff can support you with anything that’s safe and legal. Below are some of the services that our existing young adult clients use, but if what you need support with isn’t on this list then just ask:

  • Socialising, e.g. visiting friends
  • Support to participate in or attend sporting events
  • Assistance with studying or support in the workplace
  • Paperwork, e.g. letter writing or filling in forms
  • Personal care, e.g. getting up, going to the toilet, bathing, washing, dressing etc.
  • Assistance with medication
  • Companionship - trips out, conversation etc.
  • Household tasks, e.g. laundry, cooking, shopping, pet care, errands and workplace support

Personal budgets

Personal budgets and direct payments are amounts of funding allocated to you from your local council or health authority so you can purchase support and arrange your own support and care independently.

Our care & support is truly flexible and will fit around your life; what is termed "person centered care".

Respite care for young adults

Having a break or a change of scene can make a real difference, not only to the lives of the people we support but to their families and carers.

Our services are tailored to a family's specific needs - enabling the family to take a break, whilst supporting the person to enjoy a positive experience. We ensure individuals can spend their budget allocation in the way that they want to.

Assessment process and delivery of care

On initial contact with the office you will be asked for some basic details and a visit by one of our staff will be arranged with you.

It is very likely that you will have someone else involved in your support arrangements. It may be a family member, an advocate, a support worker or a health professional. If you would like one of these people to be with you at this visit we welcome that, but it’s up to you, they don’t have to be.

During the visit you and your representative will be asked questions about the service you want and need. Following this assessment meeting, we will develop a bespoke care and support plan for you which we will send you to check that everything required has been included.

This plan sets out what our care and support workers will do to support you and is what we use to match your needs and, wherever possible, interests and preferences to the most suitable care and support worker. If at any time you want to change any aspect of your care and support, just contact us.

Once a care and support worker is placed with you, regular contact with both of you will take place to ensure that all is going well. Review meetings will be held to ensure that your needs and expectations are still being met, or in case of changed circumstances, the care and support plan needs to be updated.
