Admiral nurse - specialist dementia care

Admiral Nurses provide specialist dementia support for families, offering one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions. They undertake a comprehensive assessment of need and provide a range of therapeutic approaches designed to promote emotional well being and equip family carers with skills and information.

The unique dementia expertise and experience of an Admiral Nurse can offer a lifeline, helping families live more positively with dementia and to face forthcoming challenges with more confidence and less fear.

Admiral Nurses work with people and families affected by all types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies. They also work collaboratively with health and social care professionals to improve the experiences of those affected by dementia.

They are named after Joseph Levy who had vascular dementia and was known as “Admiral Joe” due to his keen interest in sailing.

Dementia UK  is a national charity which works in partnership with the NHS, local authorities and other organisations to promote and develop Admiral Nursing and to support the practice of Admiral Nurses.

Agincare's Admiral Nurse

We were the first independent care provider to employ an Admiral Nurse and are one of only a few to do so. Jo Palmer provides additional support to family carers, care workers, staff and those living with dementia.

Working collaboratively with partner providers of health and social care, Jo provides strategic, professional, clinical leadership and consultancy in care and nursing practice throughout Agincare. She also influences training and education programs to increase awareness and promote best practice in dementia care throughout Agincare’s work.
